Scheme: Gloucestershire Highways Coring - Tar Survey

In spring & Autumn 2013 iDrill+ was again asked to undertake the coring for Gloucestershire`s 2013/4 road resurfacing/construction programme. There were 819 Cores from 105 sites. Once again iDrill+ took care of all of the traffic management requirements for the 105 sites. All core samples were logged and PAK marker sprayed for indication of hydrocarbons. Any cores showing indication were sent to the laboratory for analysis.

Client: Atkins/Oxfordshire County Council Partnership
Scheme: Structural Maintenance Coring

In winter 2013 iDrill+ was asked to undertake 146No. 150mm dia and 85No.300mm. dia cores as part of a pavement investigation scheme. There were 19 schemes in total. Hand dug trial holes were dug through the 300 dia core holes. The trial pits were logged by iDrill+ and samples taken for CBR analysis. The cores were sprayed with PAK marker spray to highlight any indication of tar. Samples were then tested in the laboratory for PAH17 CSS and WAC tests.

Client: Midland Quarry Products
Scheme: Nestle Factory, Tutbury

As part of a pavement investigation scheme, iDrill+ was asked to undertake 31 cores and 2 No. TRL DCP tests to establish sub-base CBR values. All core samples were logged and sent to the laboratory for binder & grading analysis and density testing.

Client: Atkins Cambridgeshire Highways
Scheme: Alconbury Weston Flood Arch - Coring, under/on bridge coring

As part of this repair/reconstruction scheme, iDrill+ was asked to take 12no. cores from under the arches for compressive strength testing and 4no. cores from the bridge deck. We also arranged for 3no. window samples to be carried out by Island Soils.

Client: Atkins Rivers & Coastal, Glasgow
Scheme: Concrete Jetty, Ullapool, Scottish Highlands

iDrill+ was asked to undertake a concrete investigation of the concrete jetty at the seaside town of Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands. The investigation comprised of 14 No. 100mm. Concrete cores, carbonation testing, chloride sampling and a covermeter survey.

Scheme: Gloucestershire Highways Coring - Tar Survey

In winter 2011 iDrill+ was again asked to undertake the coring for Gloucetsershires 2012/13 road resurfacing/construction programme. There were 309 Cores from 43 sites in the first phase of works, with phase 2 to follow. iDrill took care of all of the traffic management requirements for the sites. All core samples were logged and PAK sprayed back at iDrill+`s modern premises. Any cores showing PAH indication were sent to the laboratory for analysis.

Client: Atkins / Oxfordshire County Council Partnership
Scheme: Oxfordshire Highways Coring - Pavement Assessment

iDrill+ has just completed a comprehensive coring programme on behalf of Atkins Highways, Oxfordshire for their 2011 road resurfacing/construction programme. iDrill+ was tasked to extract 490No. cores and 40No. trial pits from 60No. sites throughout Oxfordshire. The sites ranged from town centre roads to the road outside the Prime Ministers country house in rural Oxfordshire! Trial pits were logged by iDrill+ and either a DCP test carried out insitu or a sample was taken for CBR testing. All the extracted cores were logged, photographed and tested with PAK spray by iDrill+ for indication of hydrocarbons. As with all coring schemes, core logs were sent to the client within 48hrs at no extra cost. Any cores showing an indication were sent off to the testing laboratory for full PAH 17 CSS and WAC testing. iDrill+ also carried out full chapter 8 traffic management in house on all of the schemes.

Client: Atkins Rivers & Coastal
Scheme: Environment Agency Asset Inspections

iDrill+ was asked to undertake several concrete wall surveys of sea wall defences around the east coast. Concrete cores, carbonation testing, chloride sampling and a covermeter survey were carried out at each of the sea wall locations working in conjunction with Atkins inspection engineers.

Client: Atkins Birmingham
Scheme: Essex CCTV Installations

iDrill+ was asked to carry out window sample holes to 6m depth with in-situ SPT (Standard Penetration Testing) for various sites throughout Essex. The information gained will assist the engineers in designing concrete pad foundations for CCTV masts.

Client: Atkins Water and Environment, Telford
Scheme: M25 Downstream Defender Trial

iDrill+ has been awarded the contract to monitor and sample a newly installed Downstream Defender. Working on behalf of Atkins Water and Environment, this highways agency backed study is to establish the performance of Hydro International’s Downstream Defender on a site between Junction 2 and 3 on the M25. The Downstream Defender collects rainwater run-off from 1km of motorway and by vortex motion segregates out the sediment from the water. When full, a vacuum tanker is used to suck out the sediment. The advantage of the method is that you have several drains without sumps on the motorway feeding one large sump (the Downstream Defender) so you only have to clean out one sump. iDrill+ will be monitoring the Downstream Defender every 3 months, measuring sediment in the sump and taking sediment and water samples for chemical and classification analysis.

Client: Atkins / Cambridgshire County Council Partnership
Scheme: Welland Road, Peterborough

iDrill+ was instructed to extract 12No. road cores along Welland road, Cambridgeshire, the road being due for reconstruction. The aim of the investigation was to establish if there was tar present in the pavement construction. 150mm diameter cores were taken and sent away to the laboratory for analysis.
